Each capsule contains four tablets:

Two DAO white/beige gastro-resistant tablets with release into the intestine. One brown color tablet for immediate release with vitamin C. One yellow tablet for immediate release with quercetin.

What is DAOfood Plus?

Leading the Dietary Management of DAO Deficiency

The amount of DAO contained in DAOfood Plus complements the body’s own enzyme, enhancing the breakdown of dietary histamine. DAOfood Plus therefore supports histamine metabolism locally in the small intestine and, in combination with quercetin and vitamin C as adjuvants, restores the natural balance of histamine and DAO.

If you cannot take quercetin, you can open the capsule and remove the yellow tablet.

DAOfood is a dietary supplement for the dietary management of DAO Deficiency*. Highly active and bioavailable Diamine Oxidase (DAO) enzyme. Ideal for prolonged dietary management of DAO deficiency. It includes Quercetin and Vitamin C as adjuvant ingredients that work in synergy with the DAO enzyme. With the innovative Eficaps technology based on capsules with gastroresistant tablets that allow the release of the ingredients at the required time and place of action. DAO intake through DAOfood Plus helps to increase the breakdown of exogenous or dietary histamine in the gut. Legal Disclaimer*: These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Histamine

Histamine is a molecule that is present in all foods in the daily diet, is also produced endogenously in the body, and is the mediator of many biological processes such as hypersensitivity or the body’s defense reactions gastric acid secretions, neuromodulation and regulation of immune function. Ingested histamine is broken down by the enzyme Diamine Oxidase (DAO) in the small intestine.

The Issue

If the metabolic activity of the DAO enzyme is reduced, the ingested histamine cannot be degraded and passes through the intestinal mucosa to the bloodstream.

The Solution

DAOfood Plus provides the exogenous DAO intake necessary to restore histamine metabolism. Proper DAO supplementation allows dietary management of DAO levels.

Histamine -DAO- DAO Deficiency

What is histamine?

Histamine is an essential molecule, a transmitter that belongs to the so-called group of biogenic amines and that is naturally present in many foods as well as inside our cells. Normally, the intake of histamine contained in food does not cause any problem, since it is quickly processed and metabolized by the Diamine Oxidase enzyme (DAO).

What is DAO?

DAO is the main enzyme for the metabolism of ingested histamine. lt is mainly located in the intestinal epithelium, where it absorbs and degrades the ingested histamine preventing it from passing into the bloodstream.v

What happens if histamine and DAO enzymatic activity are imbalanced?

When there is an imbalance between the ingested histamine and the enzyme capacity or activity to metabolize it, histamine passes into the bloodstream which can trigger different reactions.

Some causes of lower DAO include: Genetic Origin: identified polymorphism, Gastrointestinal conditions, Pharmacological: Certain medicines blocking DAO enzyme, Alcoholic Drinks: ethanol is a DAO enzyme blocker.

Symptoms arising from DAO deficiency: Headaches Occasional digestive issues such as bloated feeling, flatulence, constipation or diarrhoea. Muscle aches and contractures Dry and sensitive skin

Which foods contain histamine?

Histamine is present in all foods a greater or lesser extent, whether plant or animal origin. Food undergoing a lengthy maturation or food stored for an extended period is particularly high in histamine and other biogenic amines also degraded by DAO enzyme.

These foods are, among others:

Raw or pasteurized milk and dairy products.Citrus fruits, strawberries, and banana.Seafood, oily fish, and fish sauces.Raw cured sausage such as spiced sausage and bacon. Some vegetables such as tomatoes, spinach, or eggplantAlcoholic drinks*, especially red and sparkling wine.

* Alcoholic drinks contain, to some extent, histamine, or other biogenic amines, and furthermore, alcohol inhibits DAO activity impeding histamine degradation and metabolization.
